Happy holidays!
An improvised seasons greetings from my workshop…
Also, this is the first time I've used my YouTube account in 7 years and apparently one of my old videos has 40k views, so merry Christmas to me I guess.
That's not an instrument…
I've fixed all sorts of weird things in the shop. Today's item was a vintage cabinet door pull. Used a trumpet valve stem and lyre screw to make it whole.
Making parts on the lathe
This tuba had a broken valve stem. While it is possible to repair the original, a better, stronger repair is to replace it. The lathe allowed me to make a spot on accurate replacement.
The Fire Benge
Sean Mason Music LLC is always willing to help a fellow trumpet player in need. Sean's friend and fellow trumpet player recently suffered a house fire. I was happy to be able to give him back is Benge trumpet that had it's case burn around it.
Dirty Trumpet Slide
Here's a pro tip: If your slides have dust clouds coming off of them, it's time to bring it in for a professional cleaning.
Straightening sax keys
Proper brass instrument lubrication
Keep your instrument properly lubricated, it will change the way your horn plays.
Clarinet Pad Testing
Here is a little video on the tools of the trade I use to check and level clarinet pads.
